Every summer, Tamwood runs an English language summer

camp for kids and teens ages 7-17 in Vancouver at SFU.

The summer camp program happens on the university

campus and features English language classes, exciting

lessons in sports and creative activities, cultural events and

sightseeing excursions in and around Vancouver.

Accommodation options include residence on campus, host families and self-arranged.

Vancouver, British Columbia

 

Known as one of the world's most beautiful and vibrant cities,

Vancouver is Canada's third largest city and has a population

of over 2 million people, making it a great place to go to a

summer camp! Situated on the west coast of Canada, Vancouver

is only two hours by ferry from Victoria, three hours by car from

Seattle Washington and two hours by car from Whistler Resort.

Vancouver is a modern and safe city offering visitors stunning

mountain and ocean scenery and a vast array of outdoor and

entertainment options, events, attractions and services.

 

 

Programs

 Summer - Simon Fraser University -

 Residential and Host Family


Summer Camp for Juniors 7-12  &

Summer Program for Teens 13-17

 

Both the Summer Camp for Juniors 7-12 and the Teen

Summer Program for teens 13-18 combine English classes

with instructional and recreational activities, sightseeing tours

and social and cultural events. The goals of these programs

are to teach students English, to educate them about the world

through integration with students and staff of different cultures,

to raise their awareness of international issues, to teach them

valuable skills that will last their life time and to give them

a wonderful  and memorable experience. All aspects of both

programs including  the classes, activities, staff, tours, meals

and accommodation, are designed to ensure that these goals are achieved.

 

English Classes

 

  • 3 hours per day of classes, 5 days per week
  • Small classes (maximum 15 students per class)
  • English classes rotate from morning to afternoon on a weekly basis
  • Initial placement test and regular evaluations are given  to ensure students are at the correct level.
  • Curriculum designed to be challenging but also interesting for young people

 

Afternoon On Campus Activities

 

Three days per week students take part in activities

held on campus. Students will rotate daily through

different activities so that over the summer they will

have the opportunity to try all of the following:

 

* Rock Climbing
* Drama
* Archery
* Tennis
* Badminton
* Hiking
* Martial Arts
* Baseball
* Basketball
* Hiking
* Swimming
* Arts and Crafts
* Volleyball
* Soccer
* E-mail
* Football
* Scavenger Hunts
* Skin care and Beauty classes

 

Project Period

Junior students (ages 7-12) chose one project for each

week and work on that project several days per week during

project period. Project options include:

 

* Dance
* Acting
* Year Book
* Ice Breaking Games
* Kayaking in the pool
* Talent Show preparation
* Soccer Tournament
* Disco preparation

 

 Evening Activities

 

* Disco
* Movie
* Game Show Night
* Song writing
* Arts and crafts
* Barbeques
* Casino night
* Capture the Flag
* Tennis Tournament

Teen students enjoy at least three evening activities off

campus each week including beach nights, shopping,

movies, and festivals. Students living off campus spend

evenings with their host families.

 

Off Campus Days and Excursions

 

Two afternoons and one full day per week
students go off campus for sightseeing, shopping,
cultural events and exciting activities. Some of
the places students visit during the summer include:


* Whistler Resort
* Victoria
* City Water Slide Park
* Fresh Water Lakes for Canoeing
* Vancouver Aquarium
* Grouse Mountain
* Suspension Bridge
* City parks and beaches

 

Optional Activities Sundays are “Option Days”
for all students living on campus. Teen students
also have one optional off campus evening activity
each week. Optional activities are not included in
the price of the programme but are made available
for students that would like to try them at their own
expense. Some of the Sunday options and Teen
optional evening activities include:


* White Water Rafting (teens only)
* Horse Riding
* Amusement Park
* Seattle outlet shopping trip (overnight)
* Whale Watching (option offered on Victoria trip)
* Sea Kayaking lessons
* Dinner boat cruise
* Restaurants and Theatres
* Laser Tag
* Crash Crawlies Fun Centre
